This afternoon we headed out to Shoprite to pick up a few groceries. I noticed that Wheat Chex cereal was on sale for $3.00 a box or buy 4 for $8.00. Wheat Chex is one of the few cereals that my husband really likes and eats all the time.
It’s so expensive that it’s become a bit of a luxury item that we hardly ever buy. The cheapest we can usually pick it up is for $2.50 a box if it’s a good sale. Sometimes around Thanksgiving it goes on sale for super cheap but that can be unreliable.
So we decide to pick up 4 boxes since it’s a good deal. Well lo and behold the register prints out not one but two coupons with our receipt. One is for $2.00 off any 5 Chex cereals and the other is $2.00 off your grocery bill. We debate it and decide that the thing to do is go back into the store and buy 8 boxes of Chex. If we had bought 5 the extra boxes would have been $3.00 each. If you buy in fours you get the 4/$8.00 deal.
That brings the total for eight boxes to $16.00
Minus the four dollars in coupons = $12.00 for eight boxes of Chex or $1.50 a box. On top of that the register prints out two more receipts the $2.00 off cereal coupon we got before AND……are you ready…..a $5.00 off your next shopping trip coupon! Holy Cow…we couldn’t believe it. A good deal turned into a fantastic deal.
Yes, I am aware that we now have 12 boxes of of Wheat Chex cereal, but have you seen how tiny those boxes are? They pack by weight not by volume and the Wheat Chex boxes are so small compared to the other Chex Cereal Boxes. Luckily we have a pantry which gives us the space to stock up on deals. We were tempted for a minute to do another cereal deal but that would have been way too much cereal even for us.
I really love when we can get a name brand product for the price of a generic. I’m all in favor of generic cereals but some of them are just not good and we haven’t found a good knock off for Wheat Chex yet.
