Just your average Tuesday……except for the tornado!

A tornado hit where I live this morning. It apparently whipped through my street/neighborhood and then was done. It seems to have started one street in front of us and ended on the street behind us. I hope they can come up with a better idea of what path it took soon. It was totally crazy. We lost electricity for 7 hours, our street was blocked off all day. It’s a mess of downed trees and tree limbs. The really weird thing is that if you drive a block or two away from my house it’s like nothing happened. You would never know a tornado hit my street.

We lost our trash bins and some deck furniture was tossed around but that’s about it. I have never seen rain and lightning like that and never felt a wall of wind come through the house like that and I have been here through hurricanes several times. I knew it was bad when one of the cats started howling, she’s never done that before.

“The water did have a funny taste,” Sabrina Baugh told CNN on Wednesday. She and her husband used the water for eight days.

“We never thought anything of it,” the British woman said. “We thought it was just the way it was here.”

What she described was not normal.

“The shower was awful,” she said. “When you turned the tap on, the water was coming black first for two seconds and then it was going back to normal.”

Los Angeles (CNN) — Tourists staying at a Los Angeles hotel bathed, brushed teeth and drank water from a tank in which a young woman’s body was likely decomposing for more than two weeks, police said.

Elisa Lam’s corpse was found in the Cecil Hotel’s rooftop water tank by a maintenance worker who was trying to figure out why the water pressure was low Tuesday.

Too big a bang

What I find so funny about this story/video is that last night while we were watching fireworks, is that I mentioned to my husband how I could live without the lead up and would love an all finale fireworks show. Plus I’m happy that no one got hurt.

Tens of THOUSANDS of fireworks all went off at once.  Awesome. It looks like an alien attack.

“The Fourth of July fireworks show went off with a bang over San Diego Bay. Too big a bang. The show that was supposed to wow tens of thousands of people for 20 minutes lasted only about 20 seconds after a computer glitch caused multiple bulb-shaped explosions on the bay. The producer, Garden State Fireworks, based in Millington, N.J., said an error in its computer system caused tens of thousands of fireworks on four barges to go off simultaneously with a single command.”

Woohooo I won!

I took my dad to bet on the Kentucky Derby yesterday. I spent a whopping $20 bucks on my bets.

I thought take charge Indy was going to win so he got 10 bucks then I put $5 on gemologist since that was who my dad liked and $5 on I’ll take another since:

#1. I love to bet longshots

#2. historically a longshot wins The Kentucky Derby

The race was amazing and I managed to make a few bucks YAY.

Strange & Fascinating Facts

For the past week or so I have been reading this book. Strange & Fascinating facts about famous brands.
Actually I read a few pages when I get a chance when Nimby can’t settle down at night and I want to stay up to make sure she is o.k..

I read about the Heinz Ocean Pier in Atlantic City and it has caught my imagination. Specifically two things so far have caught my imagination.
#1. It extended 3 football fields out into the Atlantic Ocean.
#2. Attached to the roof was a seventy foot high electric sign with a large 57 that glowed each night and could be seen for miles.

I tried to find more information about it but couldn’t find out very much.  It lasted for 46 years before  it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1944 which is unfortunate.

I find it amazing that it held up that long.
